The Relationship Between Fat Cells and Lymphatics with Gwen Randolph, PhD

Dr. Gwen Randolph discusses the connection between fat cells and the lymphatic system, and shares her research on white blood cells, inflammation, and their traffic to lymph nodes. She speculates on how fat cells that build up around lymph nodes might be related to lymph leakage, and connects an excess of lymph leakage to lymphedema. She concludes with fundamental questions about the purpose of the fat around lymph nodes and the importance of further research in this area. Dr. Randolph is a professor of Immunobiology at Washington University in St. Louis, where she studies vascular and lymphatic biology. Her research has long focused on atherosclerosis, but her newer work also examines Crohn’s disease.

Our human compassion binds us the one to the other - not in pity or patronizingly, but as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future.
