Encountering Anti-Fat Bias in Healthcare Providers with Kimberly Montgomery

Lipedema patient Kimberly Montgomery shares the many challenges she faced from the time she was a young girl gaining weight despite radical dieting, up until she was finally diagnosed with lipedema. To make matters worse, she encountered extreme anti-fat bias with various doctors. She realized at one point that she had to take her health into her own hands and find out about her condition. She located Dr. Karen Herbst at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson who confirmed a lipedema diagnosis. Kimberly shares the difference it makes to be diagnosed and to begin to understand about lipedema. She began a course of treatment and is hopefully on the path to a cure. Kimberly Montgomery is an analyst for an electric company in Indiana. She has Stage 2 lipedema and has had two successful lymph sparing liposuction surgeries in 2015.
