Hope for Lipedema with New Surgical Treatments with Mary Brady
Mary shares that she’s always felt her body didn’t reflect the commitment and dedication she put into a healthy lifestyle, but she didn’t understand why until she did research herself and discovered that she has the fat disorder lipedema. Mary consults with Dr. Mark Smith and Dr. Joe Dayan about the symptoms of her lipedema, which include extreme sensitivity and swelling in her legs. Dr. Smith explains about a SPY exam, which tests for lymphedema, and also talks to Mary about venous insufficiency. Mary is encouraged by new surgical modalities and talks about having WAL liposuction. Mary Brady is a nurse. Since this interview, she has had two successful WAL liposuction surgeries. Dr. Mark Smith is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center and Director of the Friedman Center for Lymphedema Research & Treatment. Dr. Joseph Dayan is a reconstructive microsurgeon with expertise in specialized lymph node transfer at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City.
Difficulty creates the opportunity for self-reflection and compassion.
