The Lymph System Is Not Understood with Dr. Matthew Carmody, MD

Dr. Carmody talks about the difficulties of making a lipedema diagnosis, including the lack of medical understanding of the lymph system. He also points out that the way the healthcare system functions is a serious issue for patient care. Patients don’t get the attention they need in the conventional “fifteen-minute appointment.” Dr. Carmody shares his own efforts in mindful practice, taking the time to listen to each patient and attempt to understand the whole person, not just their physical condition alone. Dr. Matthew Carmody is a Clinician & Primary Care Physician (PCP) practicing at Mt. Auburn Hospital where he, his colleague Linda Powers, MD, and their team have established a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Primary Care Center. Dr. Carmody is also Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, MA.
